Hybrid Publishing Company Nashville TN

About Hybrid Publishing

Our business model is a hybrid of the best practices of traditional publishing with higher royalties for authors who invest in the development and marketing of their book. In 2018 the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) laid out the definition of a hybrid publisher. The IBPA identified 9 criteria defining what it means to be a hybrid publisher.

  • Define a mission and vision for its publishing program. At Influence Publishers we connect learners and leaders through book publishing in a variety of categories. With our sister companies, Academic Influence and Intelligent Education we lean toward books that advance research and education.
  • Vet submissions. Influence Publishers receives agented and unagented submissions. We look for ideas that capture our imagination and have a clearly defined audience with sales potential in the marketplace. We do not publish every proposal we receive.
  • Publish under its own imprint(s) and ISBNs. Influence Publishers is a general interest imprint. We also publish scholarly, philosophical works under our Erasmus Press imprint.
  • Publish to industry standards. Influence Publishers stays current with our customers and distribution partners to meet the ever-changing demands of the bookselling marketplace.
  • Ensure editorial, design, and production quality. We built our company on the commitment to quality craftsmanship and our books show it. We believe every book needs a professional book editor and a professional book designer’s touch. Anything less is a dereliction of our duties as a publisher.
  • Pursue and manage a range of publishing rights. In addition to print and ebooks, we publish audio and pursue the sales of motion picture, foreign language, and other subsidiary rights.
  • Provide distribution services. Influence Publishers’ books are distributed through Dexterity with warehousing, sales, order processing and direct vendor relationships with the largest book retailers and distributors in the world.
  • Demonstrate respectable sales. Part of our vetting process is selecting books we believe have a market we can reach. If we can’t sell the book, it’s not the right book for us.
  • Pay authors a higher-than-standard royalty. Our average royalty rate is 50% of net receipts but we do not have a one size fits all program and we do not sell publishing packages. Authors who invest more in the development and marketing of their books earn higher royalties. Authors who sell books directly to consumers earn substantially more.
